Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is an opportunity to share one’s inner life in a confidential setting with a trained and trusted listener. This centuries old Christian practice is the art of listening to God together, searching for the meaning of God’s action in life, and/or deepening one’s relationship with God. The process is individual and personal, helping to focus on the mutual relationship between God and the person seeking direction.

Many directees have expressed the following benefits:

  • A sense of inner calm and peace;
  • A sense of direction in one's life;
  • A sense of living a deeper and fuller life;
  • A sense of living in the wonder, awe and mystery of God.

Group Spiritual Direction is a process whereby people gather regularly to become more aware of how God is working in their lives. During the group time together there is a call upon the Spirit for guidance, Scripture reflection, silence, sharing, and prayer together. The most important element in group spiritual direction is the contemplative stance of presence to God for one another within the group and prayer for one another outside the meeting. Meeting times are set up for convenience of the group.

Two practical questions to consider:

  • Do I have the interior freedom to be in a prayerful listening place as I seek to pay attention to God in my life with others on the journey?
  • Do I have flexibility in my schedule that can accommodate others’ schedules?

Cost for spiritual direction through the Spirituality Center is based on a sliding scale of $30-$45. Contact individual spiritual directors to find out what they charge per session.
