Artistic Expressions – S. Mary Therese Thorman (1946-)

S. Mary Therese (Terry) Thorman was born in 1946 and grew up in Milford, Ohio, where she was taught by the Sisters of Charity. It was the example and modeling of her SC teachers that fostered her own desire to be like them; she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1967. She earned a master’s degree in music education from the College of Mount St. Joseph in 1968, and has taught music, directed choirs (young and old) and ministered as a music therapist as well as a parish music minister, serving in Colorado, Michigan and Ohio. S. Terry currently resides on the Motherhouse grounds, and offers piano lessons at Peaslee Neighborhood Center, Cincinnati. She also serves on the Motherhouse Liturgy Committee, provides singing circles for Sisters in Mother Margaret Hall nursing facility, directs the Sisters of Charity choir and plays for daily morning liturgies in the Motherhouse. S. Terry values the intimate connection between music and healing, frequently witnessing it first-hand. She realizes music is not the possession of musicians, but a gift to be shared. Among her original works she has written some young children’s music; the video here is entitled “Dignity”.
