Artistic Expressions: S. Mary Frances Boyle (1934-)

S. Mary Frances Boyle has celebrated her Diamond Jubilee as a Sister of Charity and considers herself abundantly blessed in her life. She grew up in Denver, Colorado, a member of St. Catherine of Siena parish and graduated from Cathedral High School, Denver, in 1951, entering the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati the following September. She has served in education (junior high and high school), retreat work, pastoral ministry and music ministry in New Mexico, Colorado, Michigan and Ohio. It was in 1971 that she transitioned into retreat and pastoral work, all in Colorado (Denver, Pueblo and Trinidad). From 1983-’90 she ministered in Manazo and Ichuna, Peru, as a pastoral agent in parishes lacking priests. S. Mary Fran credits those years as a time, “most rewarding since I had to learn how totally God was in charge.” She has shared poetry with a variety of groups throughout her life and enjoys playing the flute in Cincinnati’s New Horizons Concert Band. She has assisted immigrants seeking shelter and taught English as a second language in the years when the Hispanic population in Colorado was growing rapidly and family needs were going unmet. In her retirement at the Motherhouse she tries “to live in the presence of God and express through poetry and music the beauty and gratefulness” she experiences.
