Artistic Expressions – S. Mary Bauer

S. Mary Colleen Bauer was a woman of passion and endless energy, and had a great love for music. She played the guitar and composed numerous liturgical songs, including Peaceful and Ubi Caritas performed here.

S.  Mary Colleen Bauer entered the Sisters of Charity in 1967; her Band will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. Born in 1949 in Tipperary, Ireland, S. Mary was adopted by a couple in Jackson, Michigan, in 1952. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercy College, Detroit, Michigan, in 1973, doing graduate work in emergency medicine at Wayne State and the University of Maryland in the 1980s. As a certified emergency nurse, S. Mary ministered at St. Joseph Hospital, Mount Clemens, Michigan; Bon Secure, Grosse Pointe, Michigan; St. Mary-Corwin, Pueblo, Colorado; and Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

S. Mary had a great love for emergency medicine, music, the Irish culture and nature. She played the guitar and composed numerous liturgical songs, including Peaceful and Ubi Caritas. She was a strong advocate for non-violence, in all areas of life, and was proud to chair the Pike’s Peak Justice and Peace Commission in Colorado Springs. She was a woman of passion and endless energy. Health complications in 2005 caused her untimely death.
