Artistic Expressions: S. Ann Christine Bessler
This cloisonné enamel plaque was made by Sister of Charity Ann Christine Bessler under the direction of Kenneth Bates of the Cleveland Art Institute and was given to Mother Mary Omer Downing as a gift. S. Ann Christine, a native of Hamilton, Ohio, died in 1995. She was a teacher and always a student of art, earning a Master of Art degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1968. She taught art at the College of Mount St. Joseph (1954-’57), St. Vincent Academy, Albuquerque (1957-’61), Holy Name High, Cleveland (1961-’69) and Seton High, Cincinnati (1969-’71). She had a silversmith shop in Regina Hall (1971-’88) designing rings, pins and medals for Sisters, all executed in silver. She often lectured and demonstrated at tri-state Art Conventions.
